City of Welch Celebrates The New Year With Historical “Coal Drop” Event

The city of Welch held its second annual “Coal Drop” event to celebrate New Year and mark the large role of coal in the city’s past. While many cities worldwide canceled New Year celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the West Virginian city re-ignited its historical tradition by dropping a large lump of coal to welcome 2021.
